Piano chord finder
Find the chord progression in a piano recording.
Instead of guessing where one chord ends and the next begins, use the recording itself as the timeline. Soonic places its chord estimates beside the notes it detected so you can listen, compare, and practise.
What you get
A chord-by-chord timeline tied to the original audio. Tap a chord to move playback to that moment, inspect its root, quality, bass note when present, and the detected notes connected to it.
How it works
- 01
Upload or record the part
Use the clearest section you have. Solo piano and piano-led arrangements generally give the chord finder better evidence than a crowded mix.
- 02
Follow the progression in time
Soonic estimates the harmonic segments and places them on the same timeline as the recording, keyboard, and detected notes.
- 03
Check the label with your ear
Seek to a chord, slow the passage, loop it, and compare the displayed label with the sounding notes before using it in rehearsal or an arrangement.
Made for a musician who wants to use the result.
More than a static chord list
Timing matters when you are learning a progression. The active chord changes with playback, so the result helps you locate the exact voicing or transition you are trying to hear.
Key-aware note spelling
When a key can be estimated, the display uses that context to present note and chord spelling more naturally. Key is still an inference, not a guaranteed fact.
Practical teaching context
The Breakdown can name familiar progression functions and add neutral practice context without changing the underlying detected notes or chord estimate.
Common questions
- Can it find chords from a full-band song?
- You can submit full recordings, but a dense mix can hide piano notes and make harmony harder to identify. Clearer piano-led audio usually produces a more useful result.
- Can I hear where each chord happens?
- Yes. Each chord is timed. Selecting it seeks the original recording to that point, and the loop and speed controls help you inspect the transition.
